Winter Camp 2011 ~ December 26-30

Each day campers will explore the Nature Center with theme-related and age-appropriate stories, art, games, activities, journaling/observation time, and hikes.  Campers will be divided by age and grade into smaller groups when appropriate.

Register for multiple camps and receive $5 off of each additional camp*

Ages 4-5: Half-Day Camps
Meet:  Interpretive Center Front Desk, 9 am – noon
Fee:  Members $20/day, Non-members $25/day
Materials:  Bring a water bottle and wear weather-appropriate clothing.  We will provide a snack.  No electronics or distracting toys, please.

Session 1: Monday, December 26 ~ Snow Stories
Find out if the stories of animals in winter end “happily ever after.” Explore the clues left in the snow, jump into awesome winter books and discover the world outside of the pages.  -Animal tracking, winter stories, snow science

Session 2: Tuesday, December 27 ~ Fur, Fluff & Fuzz
Furry, fluffy and fuzzy animals aren't just cute, they are great at surviving outside in all kinds of weather. What makes a bear different than a bird? Come explore with us!  -Types of animals, hibernation , survival strategies

Session 3: Wednesday, December 28 ~ Wild in Winter
Can you run, jump, scurry and hide?  Learn how animals use their smarts, skills and senses and what makes them different from our pets. Go wild with the winter wildlife at KNC!  -Wild vs. tame, senses, animal behaviors

Session 4:  Thursday, December 29 ~ Animal Tales
Owls and Foxes and Deer Oh My! Step into the stories of amazing animals and explore the sounds, smells and sights that tell the tale of our furry, scaly and feathered friends.  -Habitats, senses, adaptations

Session 5: Friday, December 30  ~ Wildlife Neighbors
What kinds of animals live outside our back door? What do squirrels and birds like to eat? How can you help animals every day? Come find out! Explore the forests and fields to find out what it takes to be a great neighbor to wildlife.  -Animal care, types of animals, food webs

*Grades 1-5: Full-Day Camps

Winter is a great time to learn about the behaviors, tracks and homes of the animals at KNC. Explore the pond, forest, field and stream to find out what the wild things are up to!  - Habitats, classification, animal tracking

Session 2: Tuesday, December 27 ~ Survival Sense
Can you could play outside in winter like your favorite animals?  Learn how animals survive the winter and practice the skills that winter explorers use to stay safe and have fun outside!  -Animal survival strategies, outdoor living skills, snow science

Session 3: Wednesday, December 28 ~ Owl Adventures
Owls are awesome! Learn about the species of owls that live at the Nature Center. What are they really doing out at night? What do they eat? Find out today!  - Owl adaptations, habitats, behaviors

Session 4: Thursday, December 29 ~ Winter Hunters
How do creatures find their dinner on a cold winter day? Find out how animals find their food without mittens or a trip to the store, and meet a live cold-weather superhero up close!  -Habitats, cold weather adaptations, animal tracking

Session 5: Friday, December 30  ~ Nature Detective
Explore the mysteries of nature that unfold at KNC. Be a “snow sleuth,” help us solve a Nature Center mystery and discover what happens to wildlife in the winter.   -Animal tracking, predator-prey interactions, snow science
